如何改变Python默认的C++编译器？

小弟的电脑(Win98)上没有安装Microsoft Visual Studio
(VC++)，取代它的是免费的C++编译器"Dev-C++"。当我安装带有.cpp文件的Python扩展模块时，虚DOS界面下出现了如下提示：

C:\Python23>python setup.py build
running build
running build_py
running build_ext
error: Python was built with version 6 of Visual
Studio, and extensions need to
be built with the same version of the compiler, but it
isn't installed.

C:\Python23>

也就是说VC++6是默认的编译器，没有它就不能安装带有.cpp文件的Python扩展模块。那么我该如何把默认的编译器改成"Dev-C++"呢？
